You Light Up My Life: Stampin Up, Karen Burniston and Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge

Welcome to this week's inspiration for the latest Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge.  I used a galaxy background to begin my illuminating card.  I topped it off with a embossed sentiment, a detailed die cut and glitter washi tape.

I created the background from scratch starting with specially coated paper for using with heavy inks.  The product I used was Judikins Matte Kote paper, however, it is almost identical to Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Specialty paper.  I did a comparison one day and while the Distress paper worked a tad better with Distress inks, the difference was barely negligible.  The process takes many layers of ink, I usually create several at a time and save some for a later project.

Here is this week's sketch:

Here are the steps in creating a galaxy background, I used Distress Oxides but regular Distress inks or any similar inks would work, but I am sure you know Distress was made for blending!
  1. Cover your card base with your "spacey" colors.  I choose Broken China and Squeezed Lemonade for this one, bright pinks and purples work great as well as greens.
  2. Layer Black Soot, Hickory Smoke or both with a blending brush or your applicator of choice
  3. Introduce water if you want to active the oxide properties at any point in on any layer
  4. Layer and spritz while leaving some of the "spacey" colors exposed
  5. After hours of layers, spritzing and drying which can be urged along with a heat gun...finally splatter shimmer ink

Ingredients:
Karen Burniston Camping Charms
Stampin Up Pun Intended sentiment and punch circa 2017
Versamark ink
Judikins Lemon Twinkle embossing powder and Matte Kote paper
Tutti Stitched Nesting Ovals
Distress Oxide inks:  Black Soot, Squeezed Lemonade, Broken China, Hickory Smoke
white shimmer spray ink
 glitter washi tape
misc card stock

DCWV Rockstar with Sketches in Thyme

Another Nashville layout using DCWV Rockstar collection.  I used black card stock to balance all the foil details in the DCWV paper.  But then I really pulled the gold back in with the embossed gold foil paper as a banner across the front.  I used a really fantastic sketch but it helps when you use a matching stack of papers like DCWV.

Here is the sketch I used from Sketch in Thyme.

I tied some gold fiber in the hole of the super cool foil skull and cross bones tag.  The perfect embellishment for his layout.

I had the scallops, they were yummy!  I would say some of the best I have ever had.

Ingredients:
DCWV Rockstar collection:  papers and chipboard embellishments
metallic gold embossed paper
Heidi Swapp chipboard stars
Creative Memories sticker letters
black card stock
fiber

DCWV Rockstar with Sketches in Thyme

Hello, if you are a regular reader, you would know I am currently scraping my recent trip to Nashville.  We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant.  The drinks were so much fun!

Here is the sketch I used from Sketches in Thyme.

I loved this sketch as I got to seek out an assortment of patterned papers for the strips.  It also allowed me to use some of the crazier patterns like the foil hearts in small increments.

I layered several fabric flowers and a glitter one topped off and held together with a brad.

I used Creative Memories sticker letters for the title.

Ingredients:
DCWV Rockstar collection:  paper and chip board embellishments
Creative Memories sticker letters
ticket stubs
flowers with brad
washi tape

Hot Moma: Cricut Suburbia for Bitten By the Bug 2

Good morning!  It's time for a new challenge over at Bitten By the Bug 2.  The challenge this time around is Mother's Day.  I just love the retro images in the Suburbia Cricut cartridge that I used.

I added black enamel dots to the "knob" area of the stove.  I used a chalk board black card stock for a retro feel.  I liked the retro feel of the brushed metallic card stock.  I purchased most all of these card stocks in bulk at Tuesday Morning.

I love the sayings on this cart and that font!  I inked all the edges with black powderpuff chalking ink.

One more look at the entire card.

Ingredients:
Cricut Suburbia cartridge
Tutti Designs Stitched Nesting Banner dies
misc card stock
Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking ink Midnight Confessions

Creative Memories Vintage Chic in Nashville

I have another page of my recent trip to Nashville.  This layout is outside the Ryman Auditorium.  Here are the husbands posing with a statue of Little Jimmy Dickens.

Here's the sketch I used from Sketch N Scrap.  I rotated the sketch to suit the orientation of my photos.

I have tons of music themed papers but the photos are primarily of downtown Nashville.  I wanted to used papers that would let the charm of Nashville shine.  I chose Creative Memories Vintage Chic Power Palette.  I liked the subtle colors.

I accented the CM product with some beautifully detailed musical layered die cuts from Jolee's.

Even though the letter tiles were distressed I added more with Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking ink and on all the papers and edges to soften and bring a cohesiveness to the page.

Ingredients:
Creative Memories Vintage Chic Power palette:  embossed card stock, papers, letters, and tags
Jolee's Steampunk Music Flourish die cut stickers
Quick Quotes Powderpuff chalking ink Mocha Moma

I made a couple of cards for today's hop. First a get well card using several dies and some pretty polka dot paper.  I think this one would brighten anyone's day.

The polka dot paper and the next card's chevron paper are both Neenah papers I purchased from Ollie's recently.  Eileen Hull did a Facebook live from Ollie's and found some really great papers.  I hadn't been in a while.  I made a visit and scored a few.

Happy Little Stampers sentiment
Distress Dusty Concord ink
Our Daily Bread Designs stitched circle and umbrella die
Neenah printed paper
Frantic Stamper cut corner die
misc card stock and paper including Prima Ruby Violet 6x6

My second card has a pretty rainbow I cut with my Cricut.  Both cards contain a Happy Little Stampers sentiment.  I won their die cut challenge once and chose this great set.

Creative Memories Vintage Chic and The Ryman

Hi there, I am finally back to scrapping. My printer is having some issues.  I finally broke down and printed at Walgreens.  I have been so spoiled.  I can never get the photos to crop correctly when I send them off.  I choose the digital size instead of 4x6 and that appears to be the best cropping and they still turn out chopped off!  ugh!  I have to get my printer issues resolved soon.  rant over...

The photos I printed were of my recent trip to Nashville.  The first layout is outside the Ryman Auditorium.  Bucket list venue for me.  It was a quick trip, but so satisfying.  I used the muted papers in the Creative Memories Vintage Chic collection. I did throw in some wood grain paper and twine to accent.

Here is the sketch I used from The ScrapRoom blog's.

I used the Stampin Up banner punch and some oldie but goodie Creative Memories music note stickers.  I think these were on a sheet of New Years stickers, maybe wedding or cruise.

I tucked my journaling inside an envelope behind a photo.  I punched a hole in the envelope to string the twine and tie a bow.

Ingredients:
Creative Memories Vintage Chic Power Palette including paper, envelope, letter tiles and tags
CM music note stickers
Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking ink Mocha Moma
Stampin Up banner punch
wood grain paper and twine
brown pen

Karen Burniston Woodland Animals: Hello Foxy card

Hello Foxy!  I had a blast creating with the Karen Burniston Woodland Animals dies.  I also enjoyed playing along with several challenges and a sketch. I am really enamored with this Cosmo Cricket S'more Love paper which I have been hoarding for way too long.

The die cut set comes with a die for the mask and tail and another die for the belly.  I did have to cut the ear part of the mail die twice to get the negative white inside the ears.  I used a marker to dot the face and paws.  I inked the edges of all the parts before adhering together.

Ingredients:
Karen Burniston Woodland Animals die cut set
Close to My Heart Hello Foxy sentiment stamp
Cosmo Cricket S'more Love 8x8 papers
Spellbinders oval dies
Quick Quotes Kokomo Powderpuff chalking ink
misc pens and papers
