Run like a girl with Sketches in Thyme

Good morning!  I have a sporty girl layout today.  I borrowed pics from Facebook as usual. If you are a regular reader you know my nieces live several states away.  I don't have plans to go home to Georgia for a while but my oldest niece is coming up to see us next month.  This layout is of my youngest niece, she is 12 but quite small for her age, or well the other girls have hit their growth spurts earlier.  I just love this photo of her in the air! 

Here's the sketch I used:

Details of my cluster.  I used the negative of the stopwatch Cricut cut to create a flower with the pearl in the center.  I just freehanded the tag but did cut the end with a deckle blade.

Joy Clair & Quick Quotes Promotion Day 4!

Good morning, I hope you are enjoying the Joy Clair and Quick Quotes Promotion and Giveaway.  Alicia with you today.  I very much enjoying working with the Joy Clair stamps I received.  I had a blast coloring this image with a water brush and Powderpuff chalking inks so much so, I made two cards!  Actually I used the negative to create the second card.  You can just let the scraps go to waste, can you?

 

 To create this vibrant card I used the following steps:

• Stamp image twice on white card stock
• Die cut shapes in the desired areas
• Color only the die cut pieces using a water brush and Powderpuff chalking inks
• Cut a piece of coordinating Serenade paper to make very thin mat for your die cut pieces
• Ink all edges with  Powderpuff chalking inks
• Layer all the pieces and use pop dots to adhere directly over the same area on second stamped image
• Stamp your sentiment on top of image in a bold color to coordinate
• Use the same Serenade paper (black) to create a layer to back the entire stamped portion 
• Mount this on more coordinating Serenade paper and adhere to card stock

 

Here's a close up of my circle die cuts colored and mounted.

I mounted the stamped image at an angle to make the card more striking.

My second card uses the negative because I just could toss the beautiful image.  It did require one more stamped image on white.  Here are the steps I took to create the second card:

• Begin with negative die cut and one more stamped image on white card stock
• Place the negative on top of the full image and determine the area you need to color, you could use a pencil but I just approximated
• Color your selected area with a water brush and Powderpuff chalking inks
• Stamp sentiment in a bold coordinating color on image
• Ink the edges with Powderpuff chalking inks
• Cut the images down to desired size, here I left it 5.5" long but trimmed the sides 
• Pop dot the negative piece and layer on top of the colored piece
• Layer on top of coordinating Serenade paper (green)

Close up of the peek-a-boo coloring. Since I used a double stitched circle die, the negative has the same wonderful stitching as a frame for the colored areas.

That's the Ticket with Atlantic Heart Challenge sketch

Good morning!  It is time for this week's Atlantic hearts Challenge's latest sketch inspiration!  I was sorting through my 6x6 paper stacks and found this oldie but goodie.  I thought the Stampin Up That's the ticket stamp set lent itself well to the papers.  And of course the small amount of mustard let to the "golden" ticket. So much fun to create!

I purchased an entire ream of this textured mustard card stock.  It's very heavy not really card stock but cover stock with a leathery texture.  So anything that I can make to match is great.  This is some fantastic paper, just an unusual color.  I have found several instances to use it already.  If you are a regular reader you will see it again.

It's Raining Cats & Dogs Pocket letters

I have made another set of pocket letters.  This time I used the Graphic 45 It's Raining Cats & Dogs collection.  I made three and you will see highlights from all of them.  The first one I left off any red and added a mint flavored tea.  I stamped and colored many of the images.  I used lots of punches and die cuts for fun shapes.

Here is the back of the "minty" version.

On this version I added the red plaid paper and stamped the Graphic 45 umbrella image and colored it red on all three images.  I also added a little red to the little girl's dress.

One more dog, this guy reminds me of my Webster however, he is a Norwegian Elk Hound. He looks very similar but short and stocky.

Let Hope Lighthouse card with emboss resist

Hello, today I am showing off a recent card I made for an emboss resist swap.  I was experimenting with some Distress specialty paper versus Judikins matte coated paper.  Essentially they are the same, but I did find the brand labeled distress made for more vivid colors.  I used a sponge dauber to apply the inks.  Since, I created half a dozen cards, I am not sure which card this is but by the vibrancy I would say the Distress specialty paper.  I like both papers and will continue to use both but for different applications.

I layered the stitched die cut panel on top of a layer of kraft for extra pop on top of a white card base.  A note about my card base paper.  I was buying Recollections card stocks from Michael's.  I found that brand to be thin and flimsy.  It definitely doesn't take distressing well.  I save the white now for layers and am trying to use up any colors I have on layers as well.  After much research I ended up with a nice heavy bright white card stock from Sam's (Georgia Pacific Image Plus Premium card stock 110 lb/92 bright).  I purchased by the ream for around $10 (I think under) but a ream last so long even for a person like me who produces cards on a weekly basis.  I am very pleased with it but it is not really made for water coloring either...hence my experimentation with specialty papers for distressing and water coloring techniques.

Quick Quotes Serenade with Sketch N Scrap sketch

I am not sure if any of my regular readers have noticed that that I have used song lyrics for my titles from one song. You can check it out here.  It has been one of my favorites for many years, in fact I have used it for a title previously, years ago.  I thought using the lyrics sort of fit with this photo shoot.  I am not sure if I will add all the lyrics to the song throughout the album...there are many more good ones!

I love you: Quick Quotes Serenade with Stuck?! sketch

Good morning!  I have another engagement photo layout today.  I am continuing with the same papers, the latest from Quick Quotes called Serenade.  They will be available at Quick Quotes Private Reserve and Mini Reserve weekend events this fall and a future Club Q kit.  I just love this collection so much and it is perfect for my engagement photos.

Here's the sketch from Stuck?!:

I chalked the chipboard with Quick Quotes chalking inks Barn Board then a brighter Lipstick and finally edged with Midnight Confessions.

I am using more of my stamp stash.  I picked up these resin flowers at Tuesday Morning they are part of the Crafter's Companion Downton Abbey collection.  They came in a pack of four colors and I have already used half of them.  I might have to pick up another pack if I see them again.

I used the largest Tutti stitched banner.  I also punched some circles with the 7/8" Stampin Up scallop circle punch to layer the resin flowers.

Everything in between: Quick Quotes Serenade and Stuck?! sketch

Good morning readers!  Here's another lovely engagement photo page.  These photos were taken in Ringgold, GA where I have family.  I am also using the latest Quick Quotes Serenade collection that you will find at Quick Quotes Private Reserve and Mini Reserve weekend events this fall and a future Club Q kit.  I am going to the Atlanta class in October with my sister, I can't wait!  I suspect that will be my next trip to Georgia.  In the meantime enjoy some views of the old places in Ringgold.

Close ups of my flowers also show the stamps I have tucked underneath.  One time I searched "stamps" on ebay not even thinking about postage stamps.  And contrary to my thought there are more stamps than just rubber!  I started exploring and found some interesting and inexpensive lots.  These are all postmarked and modern but still some very cool colors.  I did find some more expensive ones that are super neat but I suspect I shouldn't use them on a layout since they are "collectible" but I could come up with a way to display them...something to work on.
