Bird & Feather Earrings

I don't often make earrings anymore.  I literally made hundreds of pairs a week during my busy season a few years ago.  I really enjoyed making this "birds of a feather" pair using distressed feathers, glass drops, and copper birds with sterling silver French hooks.

It's a Beautiful Day in the neighborhood~Kiwi Lane and The Paper Loft

Good morning!  Alicia here with a new Kiwi Lane DT post.  Today, I have created a two page layout with several templates including this month's featured Adventure and Tiny Wacky along with  The Paper Loft's Gear Head and Truly Scrumptious collections.

I took these pictures one spring morning while walking the dog.  I love my neighborhood, it is very old but eclectic.  My house is over 100 years and most of the homes around mine are also about that age.  We are on a hill over looking downtown in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Cincinnati has reputedly "Seven Hills" but that is a disputed nickname.  Many of the nearby homes take advantage of the view with crow's nest and decks.  Just beyond downtown is the Ohio River and the hills of Kentucky, it is a beautiful urban view.

Here I have used Tiny Wacky 2T for a cloud and Tag 1 with Creative Memories sticker letters.

These arrows are from the Adventure template set.  The title is cut from The Paper Loft papers and two different Cricut cartridges.  I used Creative Memories Traveler Road Trip font (my new favorite Cricut font) and Give a Hoot.  The "Beautiful" and "day" were from two different phrase images, so I cut them with the machine and then cut the phrase apart and created the words I wanted.  I also used http://www.mycutsearch.com/ for the first time.  Instead of going through all my Cricut books (although I don't own nearly as many as most Cricut lovers), I searched this website suggested by my friend and fellow blogger.  It is a pretty darn good search engine!  I found I had a couple of words (but not neighborhood) that I need.  I cut them and then found a font for the rest of the words that looked good with the phrases and cut the rest of the words.  It may be a little hard to tell but the orange letters have a pink shadow layer.

I did not have very many flower templates from Kiwi Lane so I created this flower with a couple of Nature templates 1 & 5.  One is a flower and the other a leaf.  I cut the leaves down a bit to fit inside the actual flower for more layered looking flower.  I also used markers to give the new "flower" petals some detail.  I actually used the leaf template for leaves and cut those out of green papers and highlighted on the edges with green pen.  I used a punch for the center and added a Prima pearl.

Ingredients:

Kiwi Lane Designs:
Tiny Wacky 2T
Adventure 3 & 4

Sentiments 1A & 1B
Clara Lane 2A, 2B, 3A & 3B

School Daze Blog Hop

Happy Saturday
and
Welcome to this month's hop with...
The Creating Blog Hops Cafe'.

This month's theme is...
School Daze

Those school days are just around the corner, and
we have made some wonderful projects to share with you this month to help get you ready for school.

Our hostess for the hop is...

Our sponsor for this month is also...
Robin

Robin will be giving one lucky winner a school themed scrapbooking kit that includes everything you need to complete a scrapbook as well as the scrapbook.

For your chance to win this complete scrapbook kit you must be a follower of each of the blogs in this hop as well as leave each of the ladies a little blog love by leaving them a comment to let them know how much you loved their projects.

So, sit back, grab yourself a Latte' and let us dare to amaze you with our projects.

My project is for my son when he starts school but it also has to do with "schooling" of my own.  This project is one of the first I tried when I purchased my new Cricut Expression 2 back a few years ago.  It was my first and only electronic die cutting machine.  I got it in November, bought this great Sponge Bob cart at a bargain and since my niece has a fondness for Sponge Bob, I thought I would make her this project for a Christmas gift, it is a covered composition book.  Well, it was a fiasco.  I didn't understand the directions, I just could not make this darn machine work and after a week or so gave up!  I must say I did manage to cut a few Christmas cards that year that were, well, barely acceptable.  After that I didn't touch my new machine for months...a while later I took a class from a great lady I met at one of the Creative Memories crops in Ohio.  I learned so much!  Now I am pretty good at using my Cricut so I took another stab at this first project that discouraged me so much.  It still was not easy.  In general I don't like their directions and prefer to wing and see what I come up with.  I must say there was a mistake in the directions of this project in the Cricut booklet that did not help the situation but since I am now "schooled" on my Cricut it was NOT a big deal this time around...

Project with Cricut booklet:

Your next stop will be with...

If you get lost along the way, here is the entire line-up for today's hop so that you will be able to get back on track and not miss a single project.

"Sunset" The Paper Loft Gear Head and Great Outdoors with Kiwi Lane templates

It is a blast having The Paper Loft & Kiwi Lane Designs work together this month.  It is a little crazy for me since I am on DT's for both.  I enjoy working with both companies so much!  Since I am new to Kiwi Lane templates I thought I would share a little of what I have learned.

Laying out everything is very nice!  I can see where everything is going to go, the hard part is choosing the papers!

I also love how you can utilize every inch of your paper!  Here is where I have squished the clouds together on the paper before I cut.  The reason this "white" looks darker is because it is the flip side of the paper so no erasing pencil marks later!  But be careful some templates will reverse, so make sure you are cutting the way you want it to turn out.  I have learned that lesson!  Also at first I cut with some nice scissors but now I prefer a craft blade, make sure it is sharp for thicker papers like The Paper Loft's.

Here is a close up of the sun (one of those oops, I didn't cut them on the same side).  It is not noticeable really to the untrained eye, but to me~ugh! Oh well, I have learned to learn from mistakes and move on.  If it was a misspelled word, I might correct it, but this will have to be.  I also flipped the template to make more of a complete "sun" than just the half it would make.

I love the addition of the orange paper with the sunset reflecting orange on my boys.  Clearly they are not blood brothers (the skinny one is actually older) but they are step brothers.

Ingredients:

Kiwi Lane templates:
Bracket 3
Paisley Park (ALL) 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B

Bird tag Scrapstuffz Inspired by....

After I finished my guest designer post for Scrapstuffz, I had some left over die cuts and ideas.  I used one of the tags where I had been experimenting with backgrounds.  This one is inked with spritzes and sprays then I added a texture, Goosebumps clear texture spray.  Finally when I decided what I was going to do with it, I stamped lightly with a music background stamp in copper.  I added lots of left over die cuts.  The bird cage, bird and wing were left over from the many layers of birds I created for the first project and use Tim Holtz Sizzix diecuts..  I also used a left over flourish and leaf (Spellbinders) from various other projects.  I inked everything up with Quick Quotes mocha moma chalk.

I also had my past passion BEADS!  Readers I tell you I may have thousands individual beads, no lie!  I have so many I can't do inventory any longer.  (It used to be a business for me).  So I have added some vintage Czech glass drops, glass drop head pins with ryolite beads and a laser cut wooden musical note to the bird cage.

The bird is cut from coppery glitter paper with the wing on a pop dot but that is a little hard to see.

Happy Birthday! My first card in a box!

This is my very first card in a box!  I made this for my a friend a couple of weeks ago.  I used We R Hip Hip Hooray collection.  I also added some curled streamer ribbon to add to the festiveness!  I started with Kiwi Lane Designs templates from Tiny Celebrate but the balloon was still a little big, so I free handed the remaining balloons.  I did have to fold the "banner" a little in the back to fit in the envelope.

More views.

Paris Card using Tim Holtz embossing folder

There are actually two different cards here.  I did these cards for a bingo challenge.  My row was bling, chipboard, blue, tearing, and 3 or more papers.  The three papers are a K&Co patterened paper background, DCWV metallic paper I used for the Tim Holtz Sizzix die cuts of the fleur de lis and Eiffel Tower.  I added a Jolee's resin embellishment in the center of the tower, Recollections chocolate pearls on the fleur de lis (these are so versatile, I have to buy another pack soon).  I colored the pretty piece of chipboard with markers.  Added pop up dots and sheer and velvet ribbon underneath.

I embossed the background paper with a Tim Holtz embossing folder that matched the dies.  Then I really laid on the chalk to enhance the image.  I used Quick Quotes Mocha Moma.  In the upper left you can see where I added a torn corner of a paper piece stamped with a Jenni Bowlin stamp and embossed with Tim Holtz distress embossing powder.

Fluttering About Spellbinders Wings of Hope

I created these cards with Spellbinders Wings of Hope and a Stamp Doctor sentiment.  Each card is a little different but have some basic components:  spellbinders oval cut and embossed, Inkadinkado Flights of Fancy clear stamps and Kiwi Lane Design template.  The Inkadinkado stamps are in the background stamped with Versamark ink.

This one has gold vellum, gold metallic paper, handmade paper and is embossed with Judikins Egyptian Gold.

This has a Creative Memories printed paper and Coordinations card stock.

I included this one because it has the "other" butterfly shape.

I included this one because it is pink. I love the pink and orange together.  I used WOW clear embossing powder on a Colorbox pigment ink.

Girly tags

I have made some tags today.  First I started with spraying the tags with some Perfect Pearls Spritz.  After that dried, I inked up a background stamp and faintly stamped the harlequin pattern stamp from Jenni Bowlin.  I sprayed the doilie with Tattered Angels spritz, then adhered and cut of the edge.  Back for some more stamping with the word and flourish which is also embossed with black detail by Judikins.

The lady stamp was purchased at Stampaway 2013.  I embossed her in Judikins black detail and colored her with Chromatix markers.  I also added a chipboard key that I inked and highlighted with markers.  Finally, I added a Tim Holtz reinforce, smokey bling flouishes and some Paper Studio lacey rosette ribbon in black.

Here's the second card (actually the first).

I used the same image and colors are very similar.  I used some black flowers with pink bling in the center.  This one has a Recollections glitter tape in a diamond pattern, the same harlequin stamp (although most of it is covered up), a die cut purple paper (Spellbinders scalloped circle), and another inked and detailed piece of chipboard.  I also stamped another image (a bottle) in pink and embossed with Tim Holtz Distress Worn Lipstick embossing powder.  I am not completely satisfied with that aspect.  The first tag is my favorite but I thought this one had some good qualities as well.

Sketch N Scrap July Card Sketch

Good morning!  Today I am using my winnings!  I am using a 6x6 paper pad that I won from Tamika, one of the DT gals at Sketch N Scrap last month during their birthday bash.  This Switchboard paper by Pink Paislee is perfect for the Fun & Games challenge I am entering.  I am also following the first Sketch N Scrap card sketch of the month.  (I just saw the new one on their blog today~so I need to get to work!)

Here's the sketch:

The stamp is from an Inkadinkado collection about tattoos.  I colored it with my Chromatix pens.  I also highlighted with a bit of metallic gold that matches the horseshoe.

I hope you have a lucky day!!
