Happy New Year with Quick Quotes

Good morning, Alicia here today.  We at Quick Quotes hope you had a Merry Christmas! Now onto thinking about the next holiday...can you believe it will be 2017 next week?  Where has this year gone?  I am welcoming the new year with a little bit of a fancy card.  We all need some sparkle in our lives!

I used one of my favorite techniques with the Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking inks and that is to highlight embossed surfaces.  I also used another favorite and that is simply to color the white paper with ink.  I wanted the cork to be, well, cork colored. So I made the cut in white and dabbed the ink over the entire cut.  I also inked the "label" slightly with the same color to give it a vintage look.

I chalked all the edges of my cuts with Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking inks.  It really helps to soften the edges of manual and electronic die cuts.  I added Want 2 Scrap bling to the lattice created by the embossing folder for a festive look.  The Want 2 Scrap Mother of Pearl rhinestones blended perfectly with Earth Wind Fire 105 paper.

Quick Quotes products used:

other products:
Cricut cuts:  Creative Memories Divine Wedding and Quarter Note font
Wink of Stella pens:  clear and silver
Sizzix embossing folder

Now on with the hop!

I am having fun with up-cycling lately.  Sshhhh, this one is for my sister.  I was going to throw out this cheese grater it was cheap and starting to rust.  So I searched Pinterest for something to do with it.  My sister loves owls, so this idea was perfect.  I used some lids, glitter bottle caps, bead caps and glitter brads to make the eyes.  I added a Tim Holtz pen nib for the beak.

I found the stick in my yard and used bead chain to create the claws.  The hardest part was manipulating the handle to make ears.  I glued it all together with hot glue.

Next up is Amanda, let's see what she has for a last minute gift.

If you get lost along the way, here is the entire lineup:

Holly Jolly Hex Card

Hello, Alicia posting today with a hex card inside the Spellbinders Hexagon Pinwheel Top Box.  I used holly paper and pearls to make this festive shaped mini card.

I created the perfect fitting hex card by using the hex die itself.  I folded a scrap piece of paper and traced the inside of the die leaving the fold inside the hex.  I then fussy cut leaving the folded side uncut.  I traced it again on another patterned paper and simply cut it about an eighth an inch shorter on all sides.I added a sticker and pearls to finish off the card. It slips inside perfectly!

Unstampabelles Flickering light Challenge

Hello dear readers!  Today I am guest designing at Unstampabelles challenges and this month's challenge Flickering lights and remember the caveat is NO STAMPING.  I had to think for a minute but early on settled on using some flickering tea lights left over from my wedding.  Then I saw this youtube video. If you take the time to watch the video, you will notice I did it my own way...isn't that what being an artist is about?  She used rock salt but I used Epsom salts.  They are much cheaper.  She coated a votive and I up-cycled some jars.

I coated my jars using a sponge paint brush then sprinkled Epsom salts over the jar letting the excess land in my platter.

This step strays from the video in that since she used votives, she did not have lids to decorate.  I did have votives but I thought the lids would be fun to decorate.  I run across a problem, acrylic paint doesn't stick to the jar lids.  I found another video similar in nature that suggested using old nail polish first after which the paint will adhere!  So I dug out the oldest polish I had (that probably should have been thrown out already) and swiped it on liberally.  I painted them silver to match the Ball jar I used that already had a silver lid.

I added die cut papers, felt snowflakes, wooden snowflakes and ribbon to the lid.  Actually I won a gift certificate to DL.ART and purchased this hand dyed seam binding called Mermaid's tale.  I picked all the embellishments to match it!  It is just gorgeous!

Here's the inside of the jar where the votive can be turned on and off.

A close up of the frost effect of the Epsom salts.

A better view of the lids.

Ingredients:
glass jars
epsom salts
Modpodge (glue)
nail polish and silver acrylic paint
silver wood snowflakes
Stampin Up felt snowflakes (very old)
Spellbinders large scallop circle die
Our Daily Bread Designs pierced circle die
Basic Grey snowflake paper (also very old scraps)
silver paper
DL.Art dyed seam binding
