Last Minute Layout with Sketches In Thyme sketch

Hello, here's a last minute layout.

I started off the day working on DT projects but once I finished I jumped right on this sketch from Sketches in Thyme.  I already had the photo I was going to use picked out.

April 8-14, Sketch #193

I splattered instead of sprayed the shimmer mist for a more masculine feel.

I basically used up scraps from my color bins.  I used my Creative Memories cutting system circles templates to cut the various circles.

Misc papers, textured board and card stock from my stash of gray's and blue's
American Craft washi tape
Creative Memories Cutting system circles
Heidi Swapp tinsel and navy shimmer mist
The Storytellers Club chit chat stickers

Quick Quotes Mix it Up: Into the Woods Fern layout and card

Good morning Quick Quotes readers!  Alicia posting for you today with more stenciling and tags.  I have invested in several new stencils lately and I love using my Quick Quotes Powderpuff chalking inks with them.  I wanted to keep this layout earthy but with a pop of color.  Perhaps I could have made the title with Anchors Aweigh 101 paper that I used in the mat for a bolder look, but I used white card stock and distressed it with some of the green Quick Quotes Powderpuff chalking inks instead.  I did add some peach pearls on the swirly ends.

Here is the layout before pictures and embellishments.  I began with a full sheet of Farmhouse 102 paper.  I cut two coordinating sheets into mats with my Cricut.  I used my stencil, Seafoam PowderPuff Chalking Ink and Light Moss PowderPuff Chalking Ink in various areas of the Farmhouse 104 paper.

I used my Cricut again to cut some ferns and the title out of white paper.  I then chalked them with the same green Quick Quotes Powderpuff chalking inks.  I adhered the title, pics and the fern leaves.

Quick Quotes products used:

other ingredients:
Cricut Spring Cottage fern cuts & Art Nouveau font
The Crafter's workshop fern stencil
misc pearls and bling
white card stock

I loved this fern stencil with the Quick Quotes Powderpuff chalking inks so much I made a tag, then used it on a pretty card.

Kiwi Lane template
misc ribbon and flower
white tag and card stock

April Showers Blog Hop with Scraps by Gracie

April 23

We're so glad you are hopping with us today.
We've got all kinds of great baby and bridal shower related crafts and ideas for you.

You should have arrived here from Jearise's blog.

if you just stopped by, be sure to hop to the Theresa's blog at
to get started and not miss any of the great projects.

Now on with the projects.

I made this mini for my new nephew's arrival with We R Storytime papers and embellishments.  I added a few ribbons and cut with some papers with Kiwi Lane templates and other die cut tools.  Since I started this mini from scratch, I was able to add many hidden pockets, pull outs and tags.  I used 12x12 pages that were sectioned into 6x6's.  So this album is 6x6 with holes punched for rings.  The covers are chipboard covered with the papers, the inside are layered papers.

Page one and two are like an open book!  Underneath the frog was a "happily ever after" so I covered that part with the frog tag.

I love these two pages with a pocket on each side!

More pages:

and more pages:

Here's a detail of a tag inserted in between the pages:

I just loved the cloud paper and used it on quite a few pages and the insert!

Here's a half page flap, edged with a Kiwi Lane template:

Another simple page but with a tag inside:

I liked my little bird pages:

And the final pages (also an open book).  This time I covered the "once upon a time" and left the "happily ever after" exposed.

And the back cover.  I made this page with the full 12x12 version of the castle and cut it down to 6x6 with the castle in the middle.

So I didn't actually attend a shower. My in laws live a few hours away and since this was an adoption, it went down very suddenly...well, more like a hurry up and wait but we went down to see the new baby during his first month!  Even though I did not give this at a shower it was a gift with that intent.  A fairy tale mini would be a great idea to give the expectant mother or an expectant adoptive mother...our fairy tale ending!  We are blessed!

Tim Holtz Crazy Birds with Wire Glasses

Good morning readers!  This project like yesterdays was very fun to make but also some mistakes were made.  Yesterday's tags...I made 3 different sets before I got a set blog worthy.  Today's cards were not so much my own mistake but a faulty product.   I purchased the Tim Holtz Crazy Bird set which was a Michael's exclusive.  It has 3 mini birds, matching dies and an embossing folder (not the embossing folder used on these cards).  I was making these cards for a friend's birthday...he is in the eye business.  I first stamped the bird in the second card.  When I cleaned it off a piece of polymer flipped off.  I stamped the second image and as you can see when you look at the wings of both pieces there is a deformity in the stamp.  (insert frowny face).  I contacted Sizzix and they do not have this product in stock to send a replacement because it is a Michael's exclusive.  I have been carrying it around in my car since I made these cards and every time I go to Michael's they are out of stock!!!  I don't want to give up the stamp set for credit since I used a coupon and all but I really would just like to have a replacement.  So these cards kind of bother me but I wonder if I didn't tell you this story would you have seen the deformity in the wing?

Despite the deformity I really wanted to use the tall bird for my friend's card.  He is a tall fellow.  I ended up giving him this first brown version.  I spent a lot of time coloring the birds and distressing them with distress pens and my new Tim Holtz Distress marker spritzer tool.  It is discounted everywhere these days and I saw them at Tuesday Morning.  However simple it really is a great tool and for the $5-7 price, it is a tool you should own!  You can use them with all brands of markers.  I am very happy I made that purchase.

I do just love the wire glasses that I created out of crafting wire and some round nose pliers.  Not perfect but that is what makes them cute!

You can see here on the second stamped image the blank space on the wing where the a polymer blob formerly resided.  You can also see the beautiful speckles created by the marker spritz tool.  I have used it several more times since making these cards.  I masked off the beak and eyes before using this technique to keep them speckle free.

The swirly circle came from die cutting and embossing corrugated paper with a Spellbinders die.  I thought it looked pretty cool.

On this image, the first I stamped, you can see just a black circle where an extra blob of polymer was that was easily flicked off by a baby wipe but obviously prevented the details from appearing on the actual stamp when removed. disappointed.  Hopefully, I will find it in stock soon to trade out!
