Quick Quotes Off the Page! Topiary in a Teacup

Hello, Alicia posting today with a flower project.  Our challenge this month at Quick Quotes.  I have upcycled a fancy teacup for display.  My mother used to make crafts like this years ago but not with paper, she used real flowers.  As a matter of fact she supplied me with the teacup!

I manually cut and embossed each flower and inked generously with Antique Linen PowderPuff Chalking Ink.  I then rolled the flowers using a dowel to keep them rounded.  Finally I added a dab of hot glue to keep them together.  Here they are after inking:

It took pretty much all of 100 flowers.  You can't tell but this is a miniature teacup.  The Styrofoam ball I used was only 2 1/2 inches.  Because of the tiny dimensions I used the smallest 3-D flower dies I had in my collection.  I though about electronically cutting them but the embossing details added so much texture especially when inked with Quick Quotes powderpuff chalking inks it was worth the effort.  I used pins with pearls on top to secure them to the ball.

I used half a ball at the bottom of the dowel for the base.  It fit in the teacup like a charm!  I covered the top (flat side) with leaves from the same die set, again with a beautiful emboss only more enhanced with Green with Envy PowderPuff Chalking Ink.  I added a few flowers at the base.  I didn't want to wait for paint to dry so I wrapped the wood dowel in gold washi tape that matched the gold detail on the teacup.  Finally, I added a bow with just a little sparkle.

Aren't the details of the cup exquisite?  I didn't want to actually alter the tea cup so thanks to the perfectly sized Styrofoam balls the topiary simply sits inside the teacup! I hope you have enjoyed this project. Please join us by August 25th for the Quick Quotes Flower challenge.

  2. Beautiful flowers and tea cup, I don't have that one in my collection. I would love to see the bottom of the cup and saucer to see which manufacturer it came from. Queen Anne is my favorite.
