Bonsai in Art Nouveau Lotus pot for Bitten By the Bug 2 Anything Goes Challenge

Hello, today I am making my debut with Bitten By the Bug 2 design team.   I decided to mix up some carts for a fairly intricate card.  I just love it when all the little pieces cooperate.

I used the Art Nouveau cartridge for this lovely water lily bowl.  I thought it looked like a fine planter for a couple of Bonsai trees from the Pagoda cart.

All the papers are from DCWV Far East stack but the dark brown tree trunks.  It really added to the overall Asian feel of the card.  I inked all the edges generously with Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking inks.

Ingredients:
Cricut carts:  Pagoda and Art Nouveau
DCWV Far East papers
Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking inks:  Dusty Rose, Green with Envy, Midnight Confessions and Vanilla Cream

Don't forget to play along at Bitten By the Bug 2 this week where the theme is Anything Goes!

Winter Tree Stained glass card

Alicia here today playing with Tutti Designs Stained Glass dies.  It was fun to watch my vision slowly come to life as I pieced together the scene.  I used the die to cut several different papers.  The end result is stunning.

I layered the stained glass die on a couple of the same papers cut with Sue Wilson Designs Double Stitched Rectangle dies.  It is not as clear as I would like but the moon is a beautiful silver shimmer paper.  I also used a woodgrain paper for the tree with some copper metallic card stock for the branches where the moonlight shines.

Oh Joy! Lawn Fawn & Stampin Up

Good morning!  I had a chance to make just a few more Xmas cards over the weekend.  I used the challenge over at Die Cuttin Divas for this CAS card.

I used January's sketch:

It's kind of hard to see in the pictures, but one of the trees was an experiment.  I wanted to create a rose gold embossing powder to match the Recollections washi tape.  I ended up preferring the glitter embossing powder of which the details are still not clear in the above pictures.

I did want to mention my experiment because it was a lot of fun and I will be more inclined to make my own colors in the future.

Ingredients:
Recollections washi tape
Ranger Gold glitter embossing powder
custom made embossing powder
gold pigment ink
Recollections Vintage Pink embossing powder
Versacolor Petal Pink ink
Lawn Fawn Christmas Winter Big Scripty word stamps and dies
Stampin Up Peaceful Pines stamps and dies

Quick Quotes Gratitude card

Good morning Quick Quotes readers, Alicia here today.  I have a card of gratitude to inspire you.  I used several subtle techniques to accentuate the soft and lovely Harmony 101 paper.

The first technique I used was masking.  Here are the steps I used to create the image:
  1. Stamp image multiple times using a platform with Quick Quotes Powderpuff Chalking inks insures a dark clean image
  2. Stamp the same image on masking tape or sticky note paper
  3. Fussy cut the image and place exactly over the stamped image
  4. Layer the second image on the platform over the first image
  5. Stamp image multiple times to insure a crisp image
  6. Remove masking to reveal combined image

I inked up all the edges with Warm Gray PowderPuff Chalking Ink  and finished off the card with a ribbon and some sequins.  I like to drop pearly drops inside the sequins for a final touch.

Karen Burniston Happy Home Pop Up card

Hello and welcome to my Happy Home!  Alicia here, I had such a blast creating this little scene.  I love working with all of the Karen Burniston dies, they compliment each other so well.  Here I have used the latest House & Fence Pop Up with the tree and leaves from Tree Pop Up.  I also used the Happy from Word Set 3 Holiday. I used Frantic Stamper Stitched Waves as the clouds across the top.

I followed my own advice and created the mechanisms of this card in basic white card stock first.  I find it so helpful to learn the folds and make any mistakes on plain card stock before I use my good stuff.  I did begin with white card stock.  I inked one side with blue ink to create the sky background.  I layered my clouds across the top.  I used green card stock for my floating platform to make a nice green yard.  I cut and embossed the house highlighting the embossing with some chalking inks to make the stone and siding pop.

Here's a closer view of the house.  So many little details really make for an exquisite card.  I am sending this out to my sister who recently moved.  I tried to use the colors of the home she purchased.  I was just winging the sold sign.  I used some of the left over flocked leaves from my last project to sprinkle in the tree and a few on the ground.  I used a little more of the flocking on the wreath on the door.  I also used a chipboard die cut behind the tree since the wood grain paper I used was paper, not card stock, my tree needed some extra sturdiness.  Finally I inked just a little yellow in the windows to simulate glowing lights.

Karen Burniston Tree Pop Up Card

Good morning,  Alicia blogging today.  I have used the latest Karen Burniston Tree Pop Up dies and Karen Burniston Greetings dies to create a summer theme thinking of you card.  I was so excited when I saw this added to the Dies R Us store, I purchased it immediately.  I have a fondness for trees.

It was so much fun creating the various layers for this 3-D card.

The clouds are Avery Elle but no longer found in the store.  I think the Frantic Stamper Stitched Cloud Edgers and Soaring Paper Airplane are pretty close substitutes.

Here are a couple of tips for using this die set. First I just cut bunches of leaves. The die cuts 6 at a time.  After cutting I inked the edges, as part of this process the leaves get a little shaping and makes the embossing pop.

Another tip is to cut the tire swing twice and adhere the pieces together.  This gives a more 3 dimensional effect and the double layer of paper increases the strength at the loop for tying your "rope".
