Scrapstuffz"Inspired by" Guest Designer~I know why the caged bird sings...

I am so excited today to be a guest designer at Scrapstuffz Inspired by challenges.  Here is this month's image:

When I got the assignment Maya Angelou had just passed and all I could think about was her story.  I usually only scrap pictures but this sentiment could not be expressed in the size of a card.

I loved how the cobalt blue was so striking against the natural wooded background.  So I started with that and found some really old Creative Memories paper that I embossed with a new 12" embossing folder of trees.  I heavily chalked the paper with Quick Quotes Mocha Moma to bring out the embossing.   I also used some of the matching stickers adhered to white card stock and popped up with dimensionals.

For the bird and the cage I wanted to use my Tim Holtz Sizzix die.  I experimented with many papers and settled on the copper glitter paper for a sort of "gilded" cage.  I then cut the bird three times.  The first is a brown printed paper for the branch, second is a cobalt tissue paper, third is the wing in blue glitter paper.  I put a brown pearl for the eye.

I had all these cobalt and copper beads in the jewelry half of my studio.  I popped the cage up so the beads would "dangle" appropriately.

I liked how the bird feeder "dangled" in the image and thought mine should, too.  I used some copper ball chain on a 7 Gypsies brass hook.  I made one "panel" of my page woodgrain. I felt the cage popped more hanging on the solid slice of paper.  I also cut various music notes with my Sizzix.

I picked out a fitting quote from the novel, wrote it on craft card stock...

and used Creative Memories Sophisticate brown letters for the memorial.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope you enjoyed my guest designer post as much as I enjoyed doing it!

Through the looking glass with the caterpillar tag...

I love, love, love Alice in Wonderland!  I even have a pinterest board: Alicia in Wonderland!!  The stamp I used is so old that I no longer know where it came from.  The mushrooms are a Cricut cut from Freshly Picked and I also have the matching embossing folder!  As you can see I ran my white Paper Studio tag through the Big Shot with one of the folders (4 in the set).  I used card stock and some old Creative Memories patterned paper along with glitter paper for the white dots and enamel dots for the dots on the purple mushroom.  The shadow of the cut is black shimmer paper.  This project really sparkles!

. I stamped my caterpillar with Mix'd Media ink and embossed with Judikins Black Detail embossing powder on white card stock.  I colored my caterpillar with Chromatix pens.

The background besides being dry embossed is also embossed with embossing powder.  I dabbed the tag with Anna Griffin purple pigment ink (because it was the closest purple to the mushroom) and inked the edges a little heavier then I went back and sprinkled Bridal embossing tinsel (Ranger?) on the entire tag.  It is really, really sparkly!  Picture two is the best one of the background sparkle. I added some grey bling swirls to carry on the smoke effect from the hookah and added a clock brad.  I also added a couple of Recollections ribbons at the bottom.  Finally, I added some purple fiber and a "looking glass" charm to the top and inked the finished project in Quick Quotes powder puff Feather Gray.

I wish to enter this tag in the following challenges:

Heartfelt Creations Sunkissed fleur flip cards

Good morning!  Today I have for you a flip card that I made with my new Heartfelt Creations dies and stamps set.  I also used a new Sizzix die to cut the card.  It was marked down at Hobby Lobby for $17.  I will use this one over and over, that's how I justified it anyway.  Really, I have already made two different designs and four cards.  But then I saw that the new CTMH Cricut cart is going to have a similar card cut that will of  course be able to be sized!  Oh well.  I still use my Big Shot an awful lot!

So I was playing around and I wanted to make orange flowers because my Secret Sister's favorite color is orange and this was her card for the reveal.  I belong to a group of scrappy ladies who have "secret sisters" for about 6 months and then reveal who they are...you send a little something every month.  My Secret Sister just happened to be a friend, Theresa! She was also a participant in my very first blog hop!  And I will be doing some work with her Virtual Crop on July 18!  If anybody is interested, send me an email and we can get you invited!

I stamped the flowers with Mix'd Media Truffle ink and embossed with Judikins Chocolate Twinkle powder.  The flowers are mostly inked with Quick Quotes Powder Puff chalks (mango mai tai) but I may have used some Stampin Up ink, (they yellow is something about sunshine).

Close ups and more close ups.  The pictures still don't do it justice!  I used the Spellbinders Scalloped Circle for layering.  Recollections Chocolate Pearls for the flower centers!  A strip of American Craft glitter ribbon to match the embossing.

The inside

Chalking and inking the flowers on the card was difficult even with the applicators I used but you can't really tell how much I colored outside the lines!  I used a Creative Memories Hex punch and Stampin Up stamp for the sentiment.

Thanks for checking me out!

Heartfelt Creation Sun Kissed Fleur class

Today I am finally getting around to posting my projects from  Heartfelt Creations's class at Great Lakes Mega Meet.  I had taken their classes before and purchased their product but never really used it to the fullest.  So I decided to take another class.  These projects looked so beautiful!

So these are the projects I made in class therefore, several parts were premade for simple assembly in class.  Tomorrow I will share what I went home and made with my brand new Heartfelt Creations purchases.  I purchased the dies and stamps for these projects.

"100% All Boy" Kiwi Lane & The Paper Loft Gear Head

Good Morning!  Alicia here, today I have an adorable layout for you using Kiwi Lane designer templates and The Paper Loft Gear Head collection.  I think they work perfectly together!

I love the KLD chevron templates ! I like how using all 3 sizes creates a neat background.  I also used the gear from KLD Adventure templates.  The gear is only half the shape so I just flipped it and completed the other side to create the photo mats.

The stars are from KLD Adventure templates, adventure 1 & adventure 2.

As always I chalked all the edges and popped up a few elements with pop dots.

Ingredients:

KLD templates:
Adventure 1, 2 & 5
Chevron 1A, 2A, 3A

The Paper Loft Gear Head papers:

Tim Holtz Fourth of July Greetings

This is my last Independence Day card using the Tim Holtz Seasons Kraft Resist stack.  I find this a great stack for the Holidays.  Back in February, I used the one of Valentine's pages to make some lovely cards.  I made several and used them in a "vintage Valentine" swap.  I also made some Christmas cards using these papers as well.  I am sure you will see me use this paper again there is a Halloween page!

I used the same corrugated navy paper with two ink spritzes here but not the final vanilla Smooch layer.  I used washi tape under the blue fiber.  I cut the star with Kiwi Lane template Adventure 1.  All edges chalked with Quick Quotes Powder Puff Blue Moon.

Don't forget my hop tomorrow!

Deconstructed Sketch with Patriotic Tim Holtz image

Today I have for you another in the series of Independence cards I made this past weekend.  Here is another where I really played around with the background.  The red card stock was just a little too plain.  So I spritzed with my homemade red spray (a mix of smooches and ranger) then I sprayed with Goosebumps clear texture spray.  I chalked all the edges with Quick Quotes Powder Puff Blue Moon.  I have the Tim Holtz image matted in the center and I added Prima glitter and satin flowers with Queen & Co pearl and twinkle goosebump bling for the centers.  I found some random paper leaves to distress and add.

Here's the sketch:

Kiwi Lane and Tim Holtz Patriotic Card with Queen & Co bling

I am so excited today!  I finally get to tell everyone!  I have been chosen to be a part of the Kiwi Lane Designs Fall 2014 Design Team!!  Wooo Hooo!  I am so thrilled to be a part of the Kiwi Lane blog team!
Therefore, today's project uses Kiwi Lane templates:  Playtime 6 and Adventure 1 (star).  I also played a great deal with the background.  I started with the wavy corrugated navy paper.  It was a little too dull and plain. I knew I was using the Tim Holtz Seasons Kraft Resist image and wanted to grunge it up.  I started with Walnut Stain sprayed over the corrugated background.  Then I added a red ink spray I had mixed up using some Smooches and Ranger spray inks.  Finally,  I sprayed a top coat of vanilla Smooch Spritz.  This ended up tying in beautifully with the Queen & Co star bling.

I was trying to mimic the shield in the Tim Holtz image. I cut the playtime template from the same kraft paper as the card base.  I traced another shield on navy card stock and cut it about a quarter inch in to get the "layer".  I cut the stripes from the same red shimmer paper as the star (adventure 1).  I added some adhesive and lined them up on a slick release sheet.

Then I used the template to cut the bottoms of my "stripes".

Here's a good view of all the spritzing I did.

All edges are chalked with Quick Quotes Powder Puff Blue Moon.

Don't forget about my blog hop this Friday!

Here's the blog candy for the hop:
